WINES AND OIL

The term “baglio” comes from Arabic and means “Fortified House”. High walls, a large wrought iron portal and an imposing crenelated tower, were protecting crops and agricultural production of the Oneto family. Its production was highly appreciated already in ancient times, evidence of which is the ancient wine label “Oneto dei Principi di San Lorenzo” preserved in the cellar of the estate which bears the coat of arms of the Oneto and that of the Holy Apostolic Palaces, of which it was official supplier. For passion and tradition, still nowadays, under the careful management of the family, 8 types of wine are produced, including the very famous Marsala DOC meditation wine, Zibibbo, Inzolia, Grillo, Nero d’Avola, Merlot and a delicious “extra virgin olive oil”.

VISIT AT THE BAGLIO WITH WINE AND OLIVE OIL TASTING IN THE ANCIENT CELLAR

Strongly recommended is the tour of the baglio to allow every guest to discover ancient work tools, architecture characteristics, the history of the baglio, and of the Oneto family. After this, in our small aging cellar, characterized by a unique and timeless atmosphere, guests can try a selection of wines and olive oil from the estate accompanied by typical products in combination.

During the tasting, past and present meet, now is time to discover flavors, history, and legends of the Marsala wine, starting from the oldest Perpetuum. All this takes on a unique flavor because it happens around the ancient wooden table of the Oneto family lent to sociality. Because you know, sitting around a table and sharing unforgettable wine and incredible local food is the best way to get to know each other.

We suggest booking the tasting already for the first or second day of the stay because thanks to this experience guests will enjoy the stay at the baglio with a different and certainly more familiar “perception”, and we want our guests to feel at home.

RESTAURANT

At the “Baglio Oneto” restaurant, you can appreciate the typical Sicilian cuisine and the dishes of the Mediterranean diet which, in themselves, embody the desired concept at the birth of the gourmet movement: a genuine and healthy cuisine that knows how to fully satisfy the palate using the best ingredients of food excellence. The aromatic herbs that grow inside the baglio give the dishes of the restaurant the ancient flavors of the Sicilian tradition.

The restaurant offers à la carte menu, flambè menu, and a small menu of typical dishes from which you can choose 3 or 4 courses with a fixed price. During the stay, to fully enjoy the Wine Resort experience, we recommend trying something special like dishes with “food cooked with our wines” and our “Experiential Menu”, an original menu in which each dish is paired with a wine of our production, a path that enhances the flavors and aromas of our sunny land in the 38th Parallel. On some special days or upon reservation, exclusive gastronomic itineraries are offered: Wines in the Kitchen (in which the dishes are cooked with local wines), Herbs of the Estate (in which the most typical smells and flavors of Mediterranean cuisine are enhanced) , Ori di Sicilia (in which Sicilian excellences are the protagonists, including the “red gold of the Mediterranean” or the red shrimp of Mazara, the “green gold”, the pistachio of Bronte, the “black gold”, Modica chocolate, etc).

And since we say “A day without wine is a day without sun!” our wine list offers an accurate selection of wines of the best Italian tradition, including those produced by the family of the owners who has been involved in the winemaking for generations. It will be possible to appreciate different areas of the baglio because the restaurant has different locations: the ancient and elegant manor house, almost unchanged from the 1700s, and the “Calandra” room, characterized by gabled roofs and typical stone entrances, the place where the ovens were located and bread and pasta were made. During the summer it will be possible to have lunch in the panoramic Terrace of Venus overlooking the sea, the islands and the famous Mount Erice where the Castle of Venus stands, while dinner will be served in the Garden of the Historical Court, characterized by a unique well of its kind, this is the heart of the ancient baglio, where the atmosphere becomes intimate and romantic in the evening.
